Slag Detection- A Disruptively Inexpensive Approach for Steel and Iron Production

The Challenge of Slag Detection in Modern Foundries

Slag Detection remains one of the most persistent challenges in steel and iron production, often involving systems that are over-engineered or prohibitively expensive to integrate. At Accurate Sensors, we believe that industrial innovation should be both highly effective and accessible.

Traditional detection methods often struggle with accuracy or high implementation costs. Our team is currently exploring a different path, based on a significant emissivity shift: while clean molten steel typically maintains an emissivity of 0.3 to 0.4, slag reaches levels of 0.7 to 0.8.

Technical Innovation: Emissivity-Based Monitoring

By utilizing a pyrometer with a Rectangular Field of View, we ensure that changes in the stream width won’t trigger false alarms. The sensor focuses solely on emissivity spikes caused by slag, providing a robust and reliable measurement.

This isn’t just a ‘finished’ product in a box—it’s an ongoing experiment driven by real-world data. We are transparent about the fact that our assumptions need final field verification to reach the next industry standard.

We are looking for forward-thinking facilities to partner with us for final testing.

If you are looking for a more efficient way to detect slag and want to help shape a new industry standard, we invite you to collaborate with us. At Accurate Sensors, we don’t just provide measurements—we provide progress.
